Amazon.com Review:
Though it looks like a toy, don't be fooled: the Nintendo GameCube is a powerful video game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems. In fact, its playful, appealing design and small size (the unit is a not-quite-cubed 6 inches) aren't the only features that set it apart from the others.

For starters, Nintendo has quite clearly made this a game-only machine. It doesn't try to play your CD collection, run your movies, read your e-mail, or store your MP3 files. The company has concentrated its efforts on games. All the prelaunch titles we've seen play smoothly, with bright, fast graphics and great sound. Nintendo says its engineers have removed traditional bottlenecks that have, in the past, slowed down processing. New components designed by IBM and MoSys, as well as a large-capacity secondary memory cache, keep instructions moving through the system's microprocessor (MPU) at peak levels. In English: the GameCube is optimized to push speed up while pushing costs down; hence its position at the lower end of the price spectrum.

The GameCube is the first Nintendo video game system to use a disc-based medium rather than cartridges for its games. Moving the software to disc media generally means lower development costs for the publishers, which, in turn, trickles down to the consumer not only in price, but also in availability and quality, as it's then easier to try out untested game ideas (Pikmin, anyone?). While most other systems likewise have their games stored on discs, the GameCube's 3-inch format is smaller than everyone else's, and is so designed to fit in a shirt pocket as much as to deter would-be software pirates.

Of course, the main advantage of the GameCube is that it's the home field of one of the world's premier game designers: Nintendo. While powerhouses Electronic Arts and Sega make games for all systems (including this one), you can play Nintendo games only on a Nintendo system. And Nintendo, you might recall, has been hitting them out of the park since it started with Donkey Kong. In fact, here's a roll call of characters and series you won't find on the other consoles: Mario, Legend of Zelda, Perfect Dark, Metroid, Kirby, and, of course, Pokémon. A few names that the GameCube will share with the other guys: Madden, Tony Hawk, Sonic, Batman, and Star Wars.

The system also comes with four built-in controller ports, so you can easily plug in extra controllers and let friends join in for the multiplayer games--it's even got a built-in handle so you can easily move it to a friend's house. It comes with two memory card slots for saving your progress through games, and there's the capacity for future expansion into the world of online gaming.

In short, the GameCube isn't an all-in-one entertainment system, and neither is it the most powerful of the modern video game consoles. But for video game enthusiasts who want to stick with their favorite characters, its value cannot be beat. --Porter B. Hall

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - cool console but not my favorite
I bought this 2 years ago, I also bought sonic mega collection and sonic adventure 2 battle, the other games are oakay to me but It wasnt my favorite console, Graphics wise its okay but i dont care about graphics, the mario games were okay but the n64 ones were better too me, it wasnt a revoloutinary console, the n64 snes and nes and wii are and were, its good for parties but i could only afford to have 2 controllers, the only thing i would buy this system for if I didnt own it would be the mario party games, and lego star wars, but thats on wii(the complete saga)but its not a bad console in my opinion my favorite 6th gen console was dreamcast since it came before all the others and had some awesome party games and the sonic adventure series(i like the dreamcast versions better than gamecube)
but that doesnt mean its a bad console.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - nintendo game console
This product not only worked like a brandnew console but came with the booklets and everything. This was a great replacement console for the one that stopped working.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Don't Listen to 1 Star Reviews!!!
I have owned this Console for 7 Years and... it still works!! I found the GCN to be a very fun and nice console.

Story
The GCN has been loved and hated by people. The console's Durability is awesome; even if you dropped it from 7 Feet it would still work (I haven't tried this but I heard it works after a 7 foot fall)!! The GCN has been given tons of games; alot of them are fun (Like Pikmin 1 & 2, Mario Party, and alot of other Mario Games too), some other games can't even last you an hour (I don't want to type these because I don't want to start a so called "Computer War").

Gameplay
The Consoles Gameplay might have been the worst aspect (to some people). But I found the Gameplay to be enjoyable in some cases; rather it's Paper Mario to Pikmin Gameplay gets an Okay from me!!

Controls
I really don't know that much about controls about past games (judjing that I am 10 and i've owned this console for 7 years). But I really do like the set-up for Controls on the GCN, though on some games the Controls might not even respond the Controls get a Okay from me.

Graphics
Graphics are probably another pretty bad aspect (for some people). Sometimes in GCN games the controls are so ridiculous you might even turn the system off and return the game! But the Graphics are okay for me!

Sound
Some beautiful Sounds are in the GCN too. On some games the Sounds might even put you to sleep they're so beautiful. But at other times the sounds are so annoying (mostly because they're reapeted alot of times). Sound is really an EXCELLENT touch to the GCN.

Set-Up
Set-Up is really simple on the GCN; Mainly just plug a cord into the back of the Console then take the Audio and Video slots in to the front of the TV. Then you have the AC Adapter; just plug that into the back of the GCN then find a Electrical Plug-In. Set-Up is really simple.

Controllers
Alot of people are commenting on the horrific Controllers of the GCN. Half of the Controllers to the GCN don't even work. The're alot of Controller makers for the GCN: WaveBird, Pelican, MadCatz, Intec, Nintendo (of course). Out of all of all of these I think Intec is the best followed by Nintendo then Pelican, then WaveBird, then MadCatz. Some Controllers are Wireless witch is pretty cool but trust me some don't even get a Connection!!

Memory Cards
Memory Cards for the system are made by MadCats and Intec (Intec being better). The Memory Cards can fit in the palm of your hand and barely require any traveling space!! There are alot of Memory Cards you can select from: Some are 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, and 64MB.

How The GCN Looks
Well its a Cube... umm... umm... umm... thats it!

Features
Power Button, Reset Button and Disc Cover Open button on the top. Handle on the back makes it east to carry around. Two Plug-Ins on the back (see Set-Up). 4 Port Controller Slots and 2 Memory Card Slots in the front. On the Botton is a place where you can Connect a thing where you can play GameBoy Advanced Games!!

Thanks for Reading, Jesse Jones GCN Fan

Oh and I would highly recommend this Console!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sister loves it
I gave this to my sis as a christmas gift because she always wanted a system. She seems to enjoy it, she loves the fact that it is strong and durable because it has taken a couple of falls already and am sure if it was a another system it would not be working to good right now

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - SSBM, RE4, Animal Crossing, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! & Super Monkey Ball...
...is all you need! REALLY!!

Those games are great!

SSBM <> If you need a fighting game, pick this one! It's awesome. Very fun for one player or for the said player and his/her 3 friends! 4.75

RE4 <> One of the 2 other games that can touch SSBM, or surpass it. Adventure/Horror at its very goriest, action-packed and just lovely. You play as Leon Kennedy once again. 4.75

Mario Power Tennis <> This game is the second in the series, and improves on it in about every single way! 4.5

Animal Crossing <> Like the Sims, but with less SUCK. The animals that surround you are adorable and the people that you can choose are super-cute too. Doesn't get boring for a while. And you and your friends can share, having their own homes, and getting to know your new-found friends. 4

Mario Kart: DD!! <> Fun in the beginning, but after you unlock things it gets a tad repetitive unless you have 3 friends on hand. Worth a purchase regardless. 3.75 stars.

Super Monkey Ball <> Super-fun, super -riginal, super-banana'd out! 4 characters get in these crazy balls, and are pit against each other. You have so many mini-games to partake in that it'll make your head spin, and you will probably be nauseous. My favorite games were Target and Golf. Characters were AiAi, Baby, Mimi and GonGon, my favorite being AiAi. He was also the second cutest, behind the Baby. 4.25
