Rating: - Exciting and addicting...
I love racing games...but this car game is slightly different than the normal racing games I play. It has to be one of the most intense racing type games I have ever played. It's only downfall, to me, was it's limited car selection (although it the ones it does have are all cool). Like any other car game, you win, get more money race harder people, buy faster cars, but the police aspect of this game is what makes it exciting, the racing is OK.
Rating: - Fun but frustrating...
At times this game can be very entertaining, yet it's got a few quirks that can quickly suck all the fun out of it...
* There's a pretty big bug in that if you're driving parallel to a wall you can actually "hit" the area where two polygons come together. This happens most frequently with guardrails along the side of the road. Combined with the fact that hitting *any* fixed object makes you stop dead, this means that you can go from 200 mph to completely stopped in an instant. I can't believe how many times I've been burned by this problem; typically once a race, give or take. Someone at EA wasn't doing their job when they let this one slip by.
* From the way they can push you around like a rag doll, the police cars are clearly much heavier than you, yet they can out-accelerate you, too. Even on pursuit level 1!
* You better hope you don't need to accelerate from a standstill and turn at the same time, because it's nearly impossible. I don't see how these cars could be even vaguely street-drivable. You push the accelerator a little bit, the car inches forward. Push it a tiny bit more, and now you're spinning out all over the pavement...all the way up to 60 mph! Why is it so hard for these cars to get traction? Is there no happy median for acceleration? The police cars have no problem getting going in those situations, so why do I?
* At random times during a pursuit all of a sudden you'll see a pair of big, heavy SUVs heading straight for you, trying to hit you head-on. First of all, I can't quite figure out if this game is supposed to emulate real life or Hollywood; this is one of those things that make me think it's the latter. Secondly, you have no way of knowing when they're coming and there's barely any time to react when they do. I think it would be a lot more fun if the SUVs would join the other pursuing vehicles and try to ram you off the road, or if they'd smash into you from both sides. Having them come at you head-on and being able to consistently bring a chase to an abrubt halt seems to me to be just a dirty trick, and represents a lack of creativity on the part of the game's developers.
* In the higher pursuit levels, the pursuits are just way too difficult to end because the police cars just keep coming and coming and coming. Just when you think you've finally outrun them all, another one appears. I guess I just don't get that. At some point they have to eventually let up and give you a chance to do what you're going to do. But, no, they just keep coming, no matter which direction you go or if you just stay where you are. Maybe it's just me, but it's pretty hard to run away from something that has the ability to just magically reappear in front of you.
* Also in the higher pursuit levels, if you enter the cooldown period and you're not near one the blue hiding spots on the map, you can forget about trying to find one. There's never one nearby, and if you start driving towards one...well, you won't make it. As I said above, another police car will appear and it will find you. It doesn't matter how slow you go or which back alleys and shortcuts you take, they *will* find you.
I was playing just now, trying to reach the last two milestones on my list: engaging in a pursuit lasting 13 minutes, and racking up a bounty of 850,000 on a single pursuit. I'd been driving around for 18 minutes, had a bounty of 2,300,000, and the pursuit was a level 5. I was *trying* to evade the pursuit, but with no luck. I drove through a pursuit breaker, destroying all of the police cars behind me. I was about to drive to the nearest hiding spot...but, oh no! Another police car magically appeared in front of me before I could get away! After driving around a few more minutes, I yet again managed to shake all my pursuers...only to have the pursuit continue because another police car decided to appear when I was only 30 feet from a hiding spot. I finally ended up getting caught when I got a little close to a guardrail on a curve, making it easy for the half dozen Corvettes chasing me to instantly surround me. What fun!
Sorry, folks, but that is just not entertaining. To lose because the game requires a certain amount of skill or is just plain difficult, that's fine. But to lose because of bugs or an opponent that just keeps multiplying, that's not. Frankly, I'm not sure how much more patience I have for this game. It's basically just a digital hampster wheel with flashing lights and cool sound effects. The real question is, would I recommend this game to someone? Yes, I would. It is a fun game. However, it is also a game that is so ridiculous and makes me so mad that I want to stop playing altogether and go do something else, or maybe just throw my GameCube out the window. In my opinion, games shouldn't do that, yet this one does.

This is an exciting game, can't stop playing. I recommend it.
Rating: - Satisfies your need for speed
This is another successful installment in the Need for Speed franchise. You play a racer newly arrived in Rockport City, who loses his ride in a fixed race. To get revenge, you'll have to gain street cred and work your way up the blacklist, the 15 toughest racers in the city.
A good racing game needs solid controls and a steady framerate, and there's plenty of both in Most Wanted. Cars are varied and handle well, and the graphics maintain a high visual standard even when your car's at its top speed. You'll face numerous types of races in career mode, including the standard circuit, drag races, checkpoints, and sprints. The fun is in building street cred, which requires you to tangle with the fuzz and generally go crazy on the road (remember kids, drive safe in real life!). All of this is laid out on an open-ended city, the new standard for racing games. Adding to the polish is a fully licensed sountrack, and several videos with live actors that propel the story along (Josie Maran!!)
Most Wanted is definitely one of the top street racing games I've played, though it's hard to say if its the best. For example, the underrated Street Racing Syndicate takes into account real car damage when you race, forcing you to pony up for repairs if you drive recklessly. In contrast, Most Wanted magically restores your car to perfection after each race. It really depends on your preference, and how much realism you want (paying for car repairs, like in real life, is a pain). Street Racing Syndicate also features a more intricate upgrade system where each part affects individual cars differently, while Most Wanted sticks to the standard unlockables after every 'boss'. Both systems are fun, but definitely different.
If you enjoy fast cars but don't have the money to race em for real, Need For Speed: Most Wanted is a great way to get your thrill fix.
