It's 2007, 2 consoles have come out, but if anyone is still thinking about buying this, DO NOT. It will be lots of fun and excitement... for 1-2 weeks. Mine lasted 13 days. I was editing a code for super mario 64, and it suddenly crashed. No buildup, no warning, it just crashed. It showed a screen sort of like the one when you unplug your cable service, except the static was tinted green. It will then say it has no code space when you start it up again, and it's completely corrupted. I didn't missuse a key code, this is sm64, not zelda or anything. Interact went bankrupt, so no customer service. I suppose you could spend like, 5.35 to have fun for 14 days or less, but it's not worth it to me.

When buying a Game Shark to use with certain games you should keep a few things in mind. For one this is kind of "cheating" when playing a game. So if you're playing a really complicated game and you're telling people, "Oh yeah, I beat that game in like two days." But you were also invincible and had unlimited ammo, it's not as much to brag about as someone who used no cheats and beat it in three or four days. On the flipside video games are supposed to be entertaining (don't mix 'entertaining' up with 'ruling your life', get out of the house every now and then). Anyway, they're supposed to be entertaining and there is nothing entertaining about playing the same level 50 times in one week trying to figure out how the hell you get on the other side of this wall to flip the switch to open the door you're stuck behind and have to get through in order to get the switch and blah blah blah. You know, THAT whole bit. Using a Game Shark can let help you get through so you could later one day play the game without any cheats and when you run into a wall you can be like, "Heh heh, BLOW IT UP!!" or.... you know.... whatever it is you figured out with the Game Shark. It can also help make games that are too challenging for you, and make them easier for you. Different people have different ideas of entertainment. Some like a challenge and some just like to blow things up or walk into a building of about 30 or 40 people and take them all out without getting a scratch on them. Whether you love or hate them, I think everyone owns one or two at one point in their gaming phase. I know I thought they were lame and just taking the easy way out but I have one for my Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced. I don't have much time to play video games like I did when I was younger but when I do get the time to pick one up I want to be entertained. Some days I like a challenge and other days I just wanna fly through a few levels real quick just to pass the time and actually have gotten somewhere.
These things usually come loaded with tons of codes for games. If you have a lot of games that aren't on it you can Google the title of the game, followed by a comma (one of these things ",") and the word "gameshark" or "gameshark codes." You can also remove games from the gameshark that you'll never use. You completely control what codes are loaded into the gameshark and what codes are active.

Everyone who has posted bad reviews here has no common sense. If you read the manual that comes with it, it Clearly explains that games that are very highly detailed (such as Perfect Dark, and the Zelda games) require special keycodes to make the N64 boot up with the Gameshark. You'd have to be completly illiterate to not catch on to any of this.
Secondly, the Gameshark can do much much much more than just giving ypu infinate lives or infinate ammo. If you study the manual and follow the examples of how to use the built in code generator, you can actually do all sorts of things like making your own customizible weapons, or making enemies not be able to move while you are facing them. You can use a gameshark to make your character fly at the push of a button, or you can use it to load objects into a level that you wouldn't get in that level.
In Perfect Dark, I was able to make a grenade launcher that fires toilets.
In Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, I was able to make Link's bow fire 5 arrows at the same time, and have them explode on contact.
In Rainbow Six, I was able to give the hostages guns and let them shoot terrorists.
In Goldeneye, I was able to walk through the locked door in the facility multiplayer level and play multiplayer in the entire facility level!
In Command and Conquer, I was able to build both NOD and GDI units and structures without having an mcv.
You can do anything you want with one of these!
The point is, don't buy something and not know how to use it when you complain that it's broken. And what's even funnier about these guys that say their gameshark's broke, is that the only way to break one is to load in a keycode for a game you don't have. And if you actually load a keycode, huge text apears that says "ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVE THIS GAME?" just to make sure that you aren't going to break the gameshark.
So take my advice and read the manual before you try something you aren't sure about.
