The appeal of Paper Mario - The Thousand Year Door is the game's sense of style. The makers of this game have explored many different ways to exploit the built-in comedy of the second dimension. Since we view the world in three dimensions, there's something inherently funny about a world comprised of only two dimensions.
The silly dialogue also adds to the comedy of the game. For the first half of the game, it's fun to read what the characters will say next, and I remember laughing quite often. As the game wears on, however, the tone shifts slightly, and the dialogue becomes tedious and un-funny. After about 20 hours of fun, the game suddenly wants you to care about the characters and their concerns. I didn't like this change in tone.
The game is far too easy until the last few battles. There's a lack of balance that doesn't sit well with me. As you get closer to the end, you'll have to endure tedious puzzles and revisit areas over and over again. I thought the game makers got rather lazy when designing the last half of the game.
But the game is a lot of fun initially. It's not necessary to finish the game. I recommend playing it until you feel like you've had enough. There's no big revelation at the end that don't already foresee. If you are in the mood for a silly, sometimes clever, and highly stylized, turn-based role playing game, Paper Mario - The Thousand Year Door is for you.

And even if you finished it you would want to play it again. Even though i'm only 9 I have a huge collection of games and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is one of the best. please buy this, you will love it.

This game is reasone enough to buy a Game Cube. It has a GREAT storyline and great gameplay. It's very addictive. I haven't beaten it yet and I'm already past 30 hours, so it's a nice long game. The graphics are super, too. Well, enough of my talk. GO OUT AND GET THIS GAME!! You owe it to yourself to buy it! ^__^

This game is soooooo cool. I love playing the side quests and waching the small cut-seens. Here is what I rate the Game total:
Music 10/10
Game Play 10/10
Funny 6/10
Graphics 8/10
You can make Mario do many things including turning into a Paper Airplane and a Paper Boat. This game take 40 to 60 hours to complete so if you like long games this is for you. I would also like to tell you something to do in this game: Go to the Trouble Center located in the East Side of Rogueport and take on the trouble posted by ???, complete it for a very special reward. Note: you can only do this after Chapter 4.

It's rare for me to spend a lot of time on any one game; I'm just not a huge gamer. That said, I've recently been picking up a few Gamecube games for my Wii, and Paper Mario TTYD blew me away.
Gameplay is fairly simple and easy; the turn-based battles are great for someone like me who won't spend hours trying to master perfect button sequences to launch special moves. The characters are entertaining, and at times it seems more like reading a novel than playing a game, one that the writers had a lot of fun with (I've found myself laughing at the game more than once).
I'm about 20 hours into the game and I would consider this one of the top 3 video games I've ever played. I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Super Paper Mario after I finish.
Edit: I've long since finished the game (it took about 50 hours, I think...time well spent!) I now have several dozen Wii titles, but with the exception of Wii Sports and Trauma Center, none of them even come close to this game. (Including, unfortunately, Super Paper Mario; it was a neat idea, but the execution falls far short of Thousand Year Door). If you have a Wii or Gamecube and don't mind reading well-written dialogue, you -need- this game.
